Don't Let Pretty Fall Foliage Cause Flooding!
10/10/2018 (Permalink)
Are leaves starting to pile up around your outside drains? They look pretty on the trees and fluttering down in the sky, but they can cause real damage if they clog drains and cause your home to flood. SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly is committed to provide 24/7 water damage remediation should the need arise. We're available 24/7 at 703-830-5800.
As the leaves start falling this season, take steps to prevent water from getting inside your home.
Check all of your exterior drainage systems:
- Are your gutters free from leaves and debris? Leaves and debris can clog gutters and drains and send water back to your roof, walls or foundation.
- Check the drains in exterior stairwells. Make sure they are clear of leaves and debris. You can install a raised drain cover from most home improvement centers that will protect you from an inch or two of debris.
- Gutters should extend at least 10 feet from the foundation.
- Buy a "witches cap" drain cover that allows water to escape if the surrounding area is covered with leaves/debris.
